Dual-purpose breeds
Dual-purpose breeds represent a compromise between egg production and growth, and are used in specific contexts or high value-added markets. These types are less common in intensive farming systems.
EGGS: CATEGORIES AND MARKETS
Sold fresh in different sizes (S, M, L, XL) with white or brown shells, depending on the breed/strain.
Enriched (e.g. omega-3), “barn-raised”, “free-range”, etc., with a premium market positioning.
Intended for the production of day-old chicks (for both layer and meat lines).
- Pasteurized liquid products (whole egg, egg white, egg yolk) for bakery, sauces, and fresh pasta.
- Powdered products (albumen, yolk, whole egg) for long shelf life and ease of use.
