A proper watering system ensures good feed intake, efficient digestion, thermoregulation and milk quality. Buffaloes, more so than cows, are animals that love water and require large quantities of it, supplied on a continuous basis.

Water requirements
Water consumption varies depending on temperature, diet and production levels.
A lactating buffalo may drink an average of 120–150 litres of water per day, whilst a dry or recovering buffalo consumes between 60 and 100 litres.
High temperatures, a diet rich in concentrates or the presence of silage further increase water requirements.

Buffaloes have a natural tendency to wallow or bathe: water is not only a source of nourishment, but also a means of regulating body temperature and providing comfort.
Many farms incorporate wallowing pits or controlled shower systems, which allow the animals to lower their body temperature and reduce heat stress.
