Dairy cattle
Dairy cattle are reared for the production of milk intended for human consumption and for processing into cheese, yoghurt and butter. The success of the herd depends on management that prioritises animal welfare, a balanced diet and the hygiene of the facilities. A good balance between genetics, environment and daily care is essential to ensure high-quality milk and maintain the animals’ health over time.

Our beef cattle belong to breeds selected for the production of high-quality meat. Our farming practices focus on muscle development, with careful attention paid to nutrition, animal welfare and the quality of the final product.

Mother-calf system
The mother-calf system comprises modular pens and fencing designed to manage the mother-calf pair in an orderly and safe manner from the post-calving phase through to weaning and fattening, particularly for beef cattle. The aim is to create an environment that supports natural behaviour, facilitates management and reduces stress during transitions. The system features permanent bedding and a dedicated calving area, with calves kept together with their mothers to promote recognition and group stability. The spaces can be configured according to the farm’s layout and can incorporate gates, corridors and holding areas to facilitate control and movement.

Respect for the three pillars of welfare – biological functioning, natural behaviour (ethology) and ethics – ensures animal welfare, which in turn leads to maximised performance and improved quality of the final product, whether it be:

With targeted structural solutions, Rota Guido ensures the ideal conditions for transforming milk into authentic Italian PDO products of excellence such as Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano. In France too, various agricultural enterprises have turned to Rota to develop dairy products of excellence, such as Beaufort d’Alpage, whilst also initiating the construction of associated dairies and retail outlets.

Five Domains of Positive Well-being
Rota Guido promotes a forward-thinking approach to animal welfare, going beyond the traditional concept of the Five Freedoms and adopting the more modern model of the Five Domains, or the Diamond of Well-being. Whilst the Five Freedoms aim to prevent negative states, the Five Domains have been updated to include positive states as well. The model takes an integrated approach to nutrition, environment, health, behaviour and their impact on the 5th domain, namely the animal’s mental state.
